We are saddened by the loss of Jim Blosser, whose civic leadership and dedication to giving back helped launch the Community Foundation of Broward. We offer our sincere condolences to all of Jim’s loved ones.
Jim, a longtime Broward resident, was a prominent local attorney who prioritized getting involved to shape a brighter future for the community he loved.
Nearly 40 years ago, Jim played an instrumental role in building support for the fledgling Community Foundation. Jim served as the first president of the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors, leading outreach efforts to raise awareness about the new Foundation and its potential to grow local philanthropy.
“It is certainly time for us to recognize the strength such a foundation provides to enhance the quality of life for all our residents,” Jim wrote in 1986, in one of the Community Foundation’s first newsletters.
Jim showed his belief in the Community Foundation by partnering with us for his philanthropy. He and his wife, Nancy, – also a former Foundation Board Member – were among our honored group of “Founding Donors.” Through the years, grants from their charitable fund at the Foundation supported education, the homeless, the arts, animal shelters and much more.
Jim’s civic involvement extended far beyond the Community Foundation. Jim helped form the Broward Partnership to champion support for the homeless. He is a former president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber Commerce and a former chair of the United Way of Boward’s annual fundraising campaign. His past community honors include being named Outstanding Fundraiser of the Year by the local chapter of the Society of Professional Fundraisers and Leader of the Year by Leadership Broward.
We are so thankful to Jim for his leadership and generosity, which helped shape the Community Foundation and the vibrant community we call home.
