Leaders from Broward’s LGBT community gathered to celebrate how far Broward has come - and to acknowledge the work that is stil needed - to continue to create a community where all residents feel accepted and included.
The event featured the screening of a new documentary titled “Our Broward Story – John C. Graves Oral History Project.” The film captures the voices of South Florida LGBT activists and community leaders who led the way in galvanizing a National LGBT civil rights movement with roots in Broward. The video was introduced by the Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Dean Trantalis. The production of the documentary has been made possible with support from the following Funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: John C. Graves Charitable Fund and the Gay and Lesbian Broward Community Fund.
Also featured at the event were the five recipients of the Foundation’s 2018 Broward Pride grants. They each described the impact their organizations will have on creating a more accepting and inclusive community for Broward’s LGBT residents.
Finally, the Foundation officially released “Broward Pride: A Report to the Community,” a publication which resulted from a series of LGBT community conversations that helped the Foundation better understand the challenges facing our LGBT neighbors.
