Legal expert Thomas Katz recently uncorked his trust-decanting insights for the Community Foundation of Broward’s Professional Advisors Council.
Nearly 30 attorneys, accountants and other professional advisors got to tap Katz’s trust-decanting knowledge at a breakfast hosted by the Community Foundation. The discussion included income tax consequences, estate-tax considerations, distribution provisions and other issues involved in trust decanting.
“It is like wine,” Katz, a former chairman of the Council and the Foundation board, said about trust decanting. “It is the opportunity to take the trust and pour the assets into another trust.”
The chance to learn more about trust decanting and other wealth management and estate planning tools is a benefit of joining the Professional Advisors Council – an elite group of professionals who have referred clients to the Community Foundation.
Presentations at the Foundation’s breakfasts and luncheons enable Council members to earn continuing education credits and to network with others involved in Broward’s philanthropy community. “It’s a vibrant community of professionals and donors. It’s a privilege to be a part of the Professional Advisors Council,” Council chairman Kurt Zimmerman said.
