Applications for 2019 Broward Pride grants are available through April 23, 2019.
The Community Foundation of Broward calls for applicants for 2019 Broward Pride grants of up to $100,000 each.
The Broward Pride initiative increases the LGBT Community’s Access to Programs, Services and Social Environments.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., – The Community Foundation of Broward has issued a call for applications for our Broward Pride initiative, which seeks to unite Broward’s diverse community and help ensure equality, justice and inclusion for our LGBT neighbors. Applications for Broward Pride grants of up to $100,000 are due by April 23, 2019.
The Community Foundation’s goal is to increase access to programs, services and social environments for LGBT residents within LGBT-focused organizations as well as institutions that traditionally cater to the mainstream population.
Community Foundation President and CEO Linda Carter said a series of listening sessions hosted by the Foundation showed that LGBT residents feel confined and seek inclusion and acceptance within the entire community.
“The problem is that the broader community lacks sensitivity to the unique needs of members of the LGBT community,” Carter said. “The Community Foundation is already working to increase the sensitivity of mainstream organizations to move the needle on this issue in Broward.”
Last year, five organizations received Broward Pride grants totaling $300,000 to undertake innovative pilot programs. The five organizations selected from 34 applicants were: Equality Florida, Keystone Halls, Museum of Discovery and Science, NSU Museum of Art and SunServe. A Community Foundation video features last year’s Broward Pride initiative grantees sharing information about their programs.
Online applications for the new grants are being accepted through April 23, 2019. Multiple grants of up to $100,000 each will be awarded in June 2019. To be eligible, applicants must be 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations providing services to Broward County residents. City and county agencies are also eligible, if their projects demonstrate charitable intent. Individuals are not eligible to apply.
