Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed Community Foundation of Broward President/CEO Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., to the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors.
In the midst of a pandemic-induced economic crisis, Jennifer brings her vast experience to help lead CareerSource Florida’s mission to connect Florida businesses with skilled talent and training solutions.
CareerSource Florida is a statewide workforce policy and investment board that partners with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, 24 local workforce development boards and 100 career centers throughout Florida. As a board member, Jennifer will help guide statewide efforts to link talented workers to career opportunities and to foster workforce training that helps Florida businesses succeed and grow.
“I’m so thankful to Gov. DeSantis for this opportunity to help foster economic opportunity for everyone in Florida,” Jennifer said. “And I’m honored to be a part of a board of dynamic leaders who are committed to helping Florida businesses and workers succeed.”
Jennifer brings a unique mix of experience – in local philanthropy, higher education and community engagement – to the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors. Before taking over the Community Foundation’s top post in August, Jennifer held executive positions helping to lead Nova Southeastern University and Florida Atlantic University. She is also the former President and CEO of the United Way of Broward County.
In addition, Jennifer’s extensive volunteer community involvement includes helping lead the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, PACE Center for Girls, the Royal Dames of Cancer Research, CareerSource Broward, and she is a new board member for Funding Arts Broward.
Now, serving on the CareerSource Florida Board enables Jennifer to apply a statewide lens to the Community Foundation’s push for Economic Independence – philanthropy that empowers hardworking Broward residents to become self-sufficient with support for career training, affordable housing and other bold solutions. And just as improving access to better careers helps Florida bounce back from the pandemic, it is also a powerful way to enhance racial equality at a time when residents across our state are calling for change.
Jennifer’s appointment furthers the Community Foundation’s mission to provide bold leadership that tackles the issues that matter – challenges that affect us all and are key to our future. Now more than ever, our community and our state require bold leadership to find solutions that empower businesses and employees to succeed.
