The Community Foundation of Broward is committing $250,000 to a dynamic collaboration that will transform Huizenga Park and champion the arts in Broward.
The Community Foundation is partnering with the Huizenga Park Foundation and the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to reimagine Huizenga Park – creating Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s signature gathering space in honor of the generous philanthropists that paved the way for our city’s success.
This public/private partnership will bring new amenities to the park, improve its connection to the Riverwalk and nearby art museum, incorporate public art, enhance public gathering spots and so much more.
The $250,000 in Community Foundation support includes $100,000 in matching grants for the park transformation and $150,000 to support arts programing there upon the park’s completion.
“The Community Foundation is thrilled to be a part of this dynamic collaboration to reimagine a beloved community gathering spot,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D. “Huizenga Park will become a place where downtown residents and visitors alike can experience the power of the arts, participate in a host of community activities and forge deeper connections to all that Downtown Fort Lauderdale has to offer.”
The creation of a signature downtown park in the heart of Fort Lauderdale is essential to the development of a healthy and thriving community. Not only does this partnership help build a world-class public space, but it also celebrates the importance of “Giving Where You Live.” Both longtime and new residents to Broward are contributing to this game-changing project, motivated by the opportunity to invest in a premier waterfront public space that generations of Fort Lauderdale residents, employees and visitors will enjoy. In honor of this campaign, the new Huizenga Park will include a dedicated “Legacy Wall” celebrating the impact of Giving Where You Live.
Huizenga Park’s evolution into Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s public living room, dining room and backyard will create an unprecedented level of daily programming opportunities and activations that can be enjoyed by the entire community. Thanks to the support from the Community Foundation, arts and culture will be central to this new approach for programming at Huizenga Park.
With the support of the Community Foundation and dedicated philanthropists giving where they live, the Huizenga Park Foundation and Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority are moving closer to breaking ground on the new Huizenga Park.
