Trevor and Margie Fried’s love for their community runs deep, passed down from generations before them. It’s a love rooted in acts of kindness, compassion and empathy that they strive to instill in their daughter, Leila. For them, true success isn’t measured in wealth, but in the impact they can make on their community.
Trevor’s commitment to tzedakah – a Hebrew word that means doing what is right and giving to those in need – has been a guiding principle throughout his life, which aligns with many of Margie and Trevor’s commitments to the community.
Margie’s work as an elementary school teacher and Trevor’s career as a financial advisor have always been driven by a desire to help others. They believe that they have a responsibility to listen, to act when they see injustice and to be an ally when someone needs help. For the Fried family, it’s more than just giving back. It’s about making a difference in the lives of those around them.
Over the past 20 years, they’ve volunteered locally, serving on philanthropic boards for organizations that provide direct support to those in need. From Gilda’s Club to Equality Florida to Honor Flight South Florida, they’ve always been there to lend a hand. And Leila has followed their lead, dedicating many weeks to fostering kittens and volunteering time for Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital.
Now, they’re taking their commitment to the next level by partnering with the Community Foundation of Broward to create the Trevor and Margie Fried Family Charitable Fund to provide sustainable support to those who are impacted by injustice and intolerance, and to those who are in need.
With the Community Foundation’s expert team to help identify innovative ways to fulfill the mission of their fund, Trevor and Margie are creating a legacy of love, compassion and empathy to make a bold difference in Broward for generations to come.
“Giving is among the most satisfying things that I do. It’s my moral biography. From childhood through adulthood, some of our happiest family memories are created in the service of others.” – Trevor Fried
