New Community Builders: Burnadette Norris-Weeks and Aaron Weeks

Empowering Others To Achieve Success

October 1, 2024
Burnadette Norris-Weeks and Aaron Weeks are new “Community Builders” at the Community Foundation of Broward.

Burnadette Norris-Weeks and Aaron Weeks are committed to philanthropy that builds a stronger community. Their charitable support empowers others to break through barriers to success.

Getting involved and giving back has long been a priority for Burnadette, a partner in the law firm of Austin Pamies Norris Weeks Powell, PLLC, and Aaron, a public transportation financial administrator. Their support for scholarships, programs at Handy that help young people and families achieve self-sufficiency, and the Women of Color Empowerment Institute – which Burnadette founded – are among the ways that Burnadette and Aaron champion equity and opportunity in the place they call home.

Partnering with the Community Foundation of Broward in 2022 helped Burnadette and Aaron become even more strategic and impactful with their giving. Grants from their charitable funds at the Community Foundation support Habitat for Humanity, the African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale, the Delta Education and Life Development Foundation, the Women of Color Empowerment Institute, and more. And as a Community Foundation Board Member, Burnadette helps guide the Foundation’s leadership and grantmaking. She’s a key part of Foundation outreach efforts to encourage more philanthropists to get involved, because she’s seen firsthand the value of pooling resources and building endowment to make a lasting difference.

Now Burnadette and Aaron are taking their philanthropy to the next level by joining our Community Builders – visionary philanthropists with endowed charitable funds of $1 million or more at the Community Foundation. The Burnadette Norris-Weeks and Aaron Weeks Foundation – an endowed charitable fund Burnadette and Aaron created at the Community Foundation – ensures permanent support for promoting racial justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.

The Community Foundation is honored to ensure that, for generations to come, Burnadette and Aaron’s endowed support will continue to empower women of color, make higher education more attainable and help dismantle barriers to future success.

“We’re all interconnected. I think that philanthropy in particular helps to build stronger communities. If more people understood the benefit of philanthropy and giving through the Community Foundation, I think they would also understand the fact that you can actually build legacy. You can actually have a gift that just keeps on giving.” – Burnadette Norris-Weeks
