About the Nonprofit Center
Launched by the Community Foundation of Broward in 2022, the Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence is a go-to resource for nonprofit professionals, volunteers and others who support the missions of local charitable organizations. We help you grow your skills and tap into new sources of charitable support. We offer:
- Training, mentoring, and continuing education
- Support for capacity building and core mission work
- A comprehensive online resources hub
- Grants to implement strategies for your charitable organization to become stronger and more resilient

Our leadership
Cathy Brown is the Director of the Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence. She brings valuable experience to her role leading our pioneering effort to help Broward’s nonprofit community reach new heights.
Prior to joining the Nonprofit Center, Cathy worked as the Associate Director of Education for Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy where she led training programs for nonprofit organizations across the country. Along with her more than 15 years of experience running small nonprofits and quasi-government agencies, Cathy is a former classroom teacher who never lost her passion for helping others achieve their full potential.
