James I. Coddington, Jr.
was an avid automobile enthusiast with a passion for the sea. He grew up alongside New Jersey’s Barnegat Bay where he learned to sail. His excellent grades allowed him to attend high school at Connecticut’s Choate Hall alongside John F. Kennedy. Like Kennedy, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. Always on the move, he lived in Virginia, New York, Boston and Chicago.
His love of the ocean finally led him to settle down in Lauderdale-by-the Sea, a community that was “paradise on earth.” Through the James I. Coddington, Jr. Charitable Fund, he will continue to support efforts to improve the health and well-being of all those in his beloved communities.
