Grants
We are proud of an impressive grantmaking history – made possible through Funds created by generous, caring philanthropists.
Since our establishment in 1984, the Community Foundation has awarded more than $45 million to hundreds of local, national and international nonprofits. As a result, we have changed lives and helped fulfill our vision of a brighter, more promising tomorrow.
We ensure that each dollar awarded through a grant is meaningfully invested in our community. To do this, our staff diligently researches important local issues, forges effective collaborations and conducts site visits to see firsthand what the grant will be used for and how the particular program will benefit our residents.
Application Information
In 2009, we launched
PhilNet: Philanthropy Network for Broward.. This web-based program allows you to submit grant proposals at any time. We no longer accept paper applications.
We accept grant proposals year-round. Our fundholders, with donor advised Funds, award grants throughout the year according to their wishes. The Community Foundation staff reviews proposals and reccomends grants to the Board of Directors four times each year.
Priority is given to proposals that address one of the following:
- Helping Youth and Families Succeed: creative programs that ensure brighter futures for the next generation
- Former Foster Youth: programs that address the needs of children as they turn 18 and leave the foster care system
- HIV/AIDS Prevention: in partnership with the National AIDS Fund, the Elton John AIDS Foundation and United Way of Broward County we seek programs that strive to lower the incidence rate of HIV/AIDS
- Civic Engagement: we seek programs that engage citizens to address common issues and be more educated for good civic decision-making
Additional consideration will be given to proposals that:
- Address gaps in services in vulnerable and under-served communities.
- Use collaborative models that result in stronger program results.
- Pursue strategies that address new or emerging needs or approach existing ones more effectively.
