Building Your Board: Recruitment and Fundraising Strategies that Inspire Success
March 6, 2010
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
One of the most important responsibilities of a board is to ensure that it continuously adds qualified new members and keeps them engaged.
Board building shouldn’t just happen when it’s time to fill a vacancy; it should be an ongoing process with year-round activities.
This session guides participants through a process that includes:
- identifying, cultivating and recruiting members
- the successful orientation of new board members to make their roles clear
- encouraging active participation and commitment
- educating the board
- rotating board members to ensure a committed board
- tools for engaging in ongoing and annual self-assessment.
Boards often fear fundraising. This session also helps boards understand their special role in fundraising and describes the five principles that each board member should understand. It presents strategies and techniques that help board members, including those reluctant to solicit potential donors, do as much as possible to help raise money.
