Re-engage for Good

Re-engage for Good is a multi-year initiative of the Community Foundation of Broward.  The purpose is to engage retired and soon to retire baby boomers to use their time, talent, and years, of experience to improve our community and lead needed change.

Communities that engage soon to retire baby boomers will reap the rewards of an activist generation that refuses to slow down. Neither young nor old, this generation represents an extraordinary pool of experience and expertise.

They want to serve the greater good.
  • How do we create new work and volunteer models that appeal to this new generation of retirees?
  • How can we maximize the use of their talent to benefit our community?
  • How can we reduce real and perceived barriers for this generation to continue to be engaged?
  • How do we connect the dots – matching those who want to give back with the critical issues in our community?

How can I Re-engage?

Organization Program Project Description
Greater Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Chamber Connect CC is an on-line “connector” platform to onboard retired boomer professionals and place them in part-time, stipend job opportunities within Broward Nonprofits. Program includes Boomer Special Teams Think Tanks that  allow for greater connection among the retired professionals to unify and collectively address issues of public concern.  Contact: Sonia Perez or Dan Lindblade: 954/462-6000 x 8790
HandsOn Broward (Volunteer Broward) Broward Corporate Volunteer Council (BCVC)

BCVC consist of corporate leaders who  create and embrace a career transition system within each of their companies that include offering onsite Explore Your Future sessions for its retiring employees as part of their retirement package. Impact Broward (formerly Senior Volunteer Services, Inc.) Encore Connect Encore Connect provides a series of sessions to both retired boomers and to nonprofits to help marry retirees' interests with the needs in the community. One-on-one counseling is provided to assess interests and ensure appropriate placement of retirees within nonprofits. They match retirees to volunteer opportunities both incentive and non-incentive. Additionally, they will coach nonprofits in the creation of new opportunities to engage  volunteers. Contact: Karen O’Loughlin: 954-484-7117 or Sue Pollack.
Community Foundation of Broward Stipends available for nonprofits for retiree project-based work
A stipend pool is available from the Foundation to incentivize nonprofits to establish new work and volunteers models to engage skilled and talented retired professionals to engage on project-based work.  The nonprofit would be required to pay half of the stipend (to have skin in the game) and the Foundation would pay half. Any of the above partner agencies may be contacted to be the primary conduit to assist and manage the placements and stipend matches, or contact the Community Foundation for more information: 954.761.9503.
