Six cities have received grants from the foundation as part of its ongoing
Re-engage for Good project. The other five are Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, Cooper City, Coral Springs and Sunrise.
The project's goal is to draw upon the knowledge and expertise of retirees in ways that benefit their communities. Keeping seniors involved prevents them from losing a connection to the community, said Thor Barraclough, a spokesman for the foundation.
"If people lose connections and move out of town, we lose the benefits of smart folks," Barraclough said. Read more
