Foundation Nominates Superintendent Runcie for Profiles in Leadership Award

Embracing School is Cool

Community Foundation of Broward would like to congratulate Broward County Public Schools Superintendent, Robert W. Runcie, on his Profiles in Leadership Award from the Leadership Broward Foundation. Each year, the organization recognizes achievements in individuals who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their industry and have used their leadership to enrich the community.
Leading the nation’s sixth largest school district, with more than 260,000 students in 315 schools and over 30,000 employees, Superintendent Runcie works with the School Board to build strategic plans for high-quality instruction, continuous improvement and more effective communications for Broward County Public Schools.
The Foundation nominated Superintendent Runcie for the leadership award because of his commitment to Broward students’ success by embracing the School is Cool Initiative. Superintendent Runcie embraced School is Cool soon after his appointment.  The Initiative aims to increase high school graduation rates to 90% by focusing on middle school success.  School is Cool has facilitated joint partnerships between the Superintendent, School Board, middle school principals, nonprofit organizations, students and their parents to help kids succeed.

Superintendent Runcie is actively involved in the community and serves on the board of several organizations, including, Council of the Great City Schools, United Way of Broward County, Urban League of Broward County, Children Services Council of Broward County, Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and the Florida Association of District School Superintendents.
