Community Foundation of Broward Invests $2.5 Million In Art of Community

November 9, 2011

(Fort Lauderdale, 11.9.11) – The Community Foundation of Broward has released its first requests for proposals as part of its $2.5 million Art of Community initiative. The initiative seeks to support bold and unique projects that will increase the sense of community of Broward residents while addressing issues of public concern.
“When people feel connected to their community, their satisfaction and engagement in it increases,” said Foundation manger of grants and initiatives, Nancy Rogan. “Through the Art of Community Challenge, we will foster the use of arts to improve residents’ connection to each other and the community we call Broward.”
With a population of 1.7 million, Broward is larger than 13 states and one of the nation’s most diverse communities. Over the years this has caused a natural isolation in various populations and limited sharing of ideas and cooperation to tackle community challenges.
“We believe the arts have the power to bring people together through its universal language of expression. This can help different sectors to work together in innovative ways and build community through creative solutions,” Rogan said.
As part of the initiative, the Foundation will grant $500,000 a year for five years, with individual grant awards of up to $100,000 being available. The Foundation will host an Art of Community information session on November 21, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information please contact Laura Santos at
