November 12, 2012

DAVIE, FL – (November 12, 2012) – More than 500 professionals involved in estate and trust planning—the largest crowd ever---attended the 11th Annual Joint Tax and Estate Planning Seminar and Breakfast on Thursday, November 8th at Nova Southeastern University’s Rose and Alfred Miniaci Theater. The United Way of Broward County, the Community Foundation of Broward and the Jewish Community Foundation joined forces to host the event.

“This event allows professionals in the trust and estate field to come together to discuss what’s new and innovative in planned giving and the philanthropic options our sponsoring organizations provide their clients,” said Kurt Zimmerman, Esq., event Co-Chair.

Attendees heard keynote speaker, Steve R. Akers, J.D., Bessemer Trust.  Mr. Akers discuss “Estate Planning Strategies in a Post-Election World”.  Steve R. Akers, JD, is a Managing Director with Bessemer Trust in Dallas, Texas, and a frequent presenter at the University of Miami Philip E. Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning.

Companies making this event possible included Gold Sponsors New York Life, South Florida General Office and Bessemer Trust, as well as Silver Sponsors Adrian Philip Thomas Law Offices, Greenberg Traurig, Greenspoon Marder, Gunster and Sabadell United Bank.

The event was chaired by Kurt Zimmerman, Esq. of Zimmerman & Associates, Terry L. Breitbord, CLU, ChFC, MSFS of New York Life Insurance Company and Scott Rassler, JD, CLU, ChFC of Mahoney&Associates.

Breitbord noted, “We have tremendous wealth here and it’s important to focus our efforts to build more community support, especially for these three organizations that fund many needs in our community. The Annual Joint Tax and Estate Planning Seminar is a forum to build awareness and support among legal and financial professionals for the community.”

“Collectively, United Way of Broward County, Community Foundation of Broward and Jewish Community Foundation improve the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people in the County,” said Rassler.  “For that reason, it is critical we support the sustainability of these organizations by helping them build their endowment funds through outright and planned gifts.”
