Florida has more homes at risk from storm surges

ISSUE
The 2014 Coastal Evaluation Report found that 88% of Broward's coastline is degrading and eroding and sea level rise is projected to cost more than $5 billion by 2035. At the same time indigenous habitats are at critically low levels and our air, water and soil qualities continue to decline at an alarming rate.

WHY IT MATTERS
Habitat protection, energy consumption and quality air and water are all matters of concern if we want to sustain the health of our community.

OUR GOAL
To increase our community's environmental stewardship through educational programs and restoration and conservation projects that yield positive and valuable economic, health, and environmental outcomes.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Projects we will support must demonstrate impact as follows:
  • Engage the community in environmental stewardship that yields tangible, lasting improvements in coastal restoration, habitat protection, energy conservation, air quality, clean water, and waste management (recycling).

  • Advocate for the development of consistent policies, strategies, and projects that promote excellence in environmental stewardship.
